Metropolitan Congress of the Clergy
(Capiz, Kalibo & Romblon)

The Ecclesiastical Metropolitan Province of Capiz, comprising the Archdiocese of Capiz, and Dioceses of Kalibo and Romblon gathered its clergy for the first time for a Congress last Aug. 21- 24, 2007 at Roxas City, Capiz. The Theme of the gathering was "Communio Sacerdotalis" with the Word of our Lord from St. John as its guiding Word "I have called you frieds..." (Jn. 15:15)
The gathering started with the opening Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Immaculate Concepcion in Roxas City by His Grace Most Rev. Onesimo C. Gordoncillo, D.D. Archbishop of Capiz and followed by a fireworks display. Dinner and socials of the clergy was tendered at the rectory of the Cathedral.
The venue of the conferences was at the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion AVR at Arnaldo Boulebard. The day started with a concelebrated Mass presided over by His Excellency Most Rev. Romeo O. Lazo, D.D. Bishop of Kalibo. The first conference was given by Excellency, Most Rev. Renato P. Mayugba, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Lingayen-Dagupan dealing on the topic "Priestly Lifestyle". Sharing by age bracket followed the talk. In the afternoon of August 22, His Excellency, Most Rev. Jose S. Palma,D.D. delivered a talk on "Spirituality and Holiness of Diocesan Priests". Sharing with the same grouping followed immediately after the talk and every body rushed back to St. Pius X Seminary for the awaited sports. The Clergy of Kalibo against Team A of Capiz Clergy and Romblon Clergy versus Capiz Team B. Both Kalibo and Romblon clergy won over Capiz in basketball game. After the first round of the friendly game was the agape and videoke at the quadrangle of SPXS, some stayed until 3am next day.
The third day was assigned to Romblon, His Excellency, Most Rev. Jose Corazon Tala-oc, D.D. presided over at the concelebrated Mass. Then His Excellency Most Rev. Jose F. Oliveros, D.D. Bishop of Malolos talk on "Fraternal Communion among Bishops and Priests". The sharing was about the local initiatives on fraternal communion. The afternoon session was made lively by the personal sharing of His Excellency Most Rev. Warlito I. Cajandig, D.D. Apostolic vicar of Calapan. His talk was on Pastoral Life through Responsible Stewardship and Proper Management of Resources. There was supposed to be a sharing but most of the priests have proceeded already to Sancta Maria Mater et Regina Seminarium the Major Seminary of Capiz for the continuation of sports. The championship game in basketball was played between Romblon and Kalibo. Kalibo dominated Romblon after a close game at the first three quarters of the game. The Seminary pampered the clergy with a sumptuous dinner party and a videoke party, since most of the priests are billeted at SPXS they have to go back SPXS soon leaving behind the seminarians and only a few preists who are staying at the Major Seminary.
August 24, at 7AM the clergy were all ready for a motorcade to Santa Monica Parish in Panay, Capiz the parish of Msgr. Ben Advincula, the Episcopal Vicar for the Clergy of Capiz, who celebrated his birthday that day. The parish is also the house of the biggest bell in Asia. The Concluding Mass was held there with no less the CBCP Episcopal Chairman for the Commission on Clergy as main presider and Preacher, His Eminence, Gaudencio Cardinal B. Rosales, D.D. The Mass started at exactly 9AM then a festive lunch followed the mass.
The clergy of Romblon took a quick lunch and drove back to Caticlan, Aklan for a boat ride back to Santa Fe, Romblon.
